2015 Walter E. Soderstrom Award recipient

Epicomm has named Tom Duchene, President, TDMS, Inc., Huntington Beach, Calif., as the 55th Walter E. Soderstrom Award recipient. Duchene will be honored at the annual Soderstrom Awards Dinner.

Duchene is the current Chairman of the Epicomm Board of Advisors and previously served as Chairman of the Association of Marketing Service Providers (AMSP) and its predecessor, the Mailing and Fulfillment Service Association (MFSA). He became the first Chairman of AMSP/NAPL/NAQP, created by the merger of AMSP, the National Association for Printing Leadership, and the National Association of Quick Printers in January 2014. The combined association was rebranded as Epicomm one year later.

Duchene attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City and UCLA, and founded TDMS, Inc., a marketing services provider, in 2009. He serves on the Board of the Graphic Arts Show Company (GASC), is a long-time member of the Board of the Catholic Big Brothers Big Sisters, Los Angeles, and is Immediate Past Chair of the Sparkling Angels Charities Board. He was inducted into the Soderstrom Society in 2014.

Andy is a graduate of Babson College; he was former Chairman of the Board of MFSA (Mail & Fulfillment Service Association) and Board Member of Gunther International.  Andy is also involved in many community organizations and serves as a Trustee of the CT Science Center, Board member for Mt. marshallWayne Marshall, Vice President Sales & Marketing, EDWARDS, Des Moines, Iowa

Wayne has served as Vice President of Sales for EDWARDS for the past 23 years.  Along with being part of the senior management of EDWARDS, his other primary responsibilities are overseeing and developing the sales/customer support staff, major account sales, and coordinating the business development department.

During this time, sales have increased 5 fold and today EDWARDS employs 70 people with annual sales of $11MM.  Currently EDWARDS has 6 account representatives backed by 13 dedicated individuals within the business development, marketing/distribution services, and customer support team.

Along with the daily job responsibilities, Wayne has volunteered to serve on numerous association committees and tasks forces within the industry.  He currently is serving as a board director for Epicomm.

Wayne has spent his entire career in the graphic arts industry.  At the age of 13 he started his own sign company while also working part time for the family printing and mailing business.  Except for taking a 4 year break for college, he has always worked in the industry being able to experience the production side by operating various pieces of equipment, to the sales and management side where he works today.  Prior to working for EDWARDS, Wayne was a national account representative for a sheet fed/web printer in Kansas City.

olinMarc Olin, Chief Operating Officer/Interim Chief Financial Officer, EFI, Foster City, Calif.

Marc Olin is Chief Operating Officer and Interim Chief Financial Officer for EFI, Inc., a Silicon Valley-based company providing products, technology and services to printing and packaging industry. EFI helps businesses and enterprises work more productively and cost-effectively with an integrated product portfolio consisting of industrial inkjet printers and inks, powerful digital front ends, precise color management tools, eCommerce, web-to-print, marketing and MIS/ERP tools.

Prior to EFI, Marc was CEO and co-founder of Printcafe Software, Inc., acquired by EFI in 2003 as a part of its long-term growth strategy. Prior to Printcafe, Marc co-founded and served for eight years as President of Prograph Management Systems. Marc Olin was recipient of the National Association for Printing Leadership (NAPL) Technology Leadership Award in 2006. He has served as a Director of the Graphic Arts Technical Foundation and the Graphic Communications Association; served on the advisory board of the International Cooperation for the Integration of Processes in Prepress, Press and Postpress (CIP4) and is currently a director of National Printing Equipment Suppliers (NPES).

Marc received his BS in Graphic Communications Management and Applied Mathematics from Carnegie Mellon University.

orrKen Orr, General Manager, Progressive Impression International-Lansing, Lansing, Mich.

Ken has over 30 years of experience in the marketing and data processing industries. Starting as a computer programmer at Boris Systems, a Real Estate software company and then at Beurmann Marshall, an automotive marketing company specializing in direct mail. Ken was responsible for creating software for direct marketing and loyalty programs. In 1990 Ken and 4 partners formed ICS Marketing Services, Ken served a key role in forming the process, production and data processing capabilities that were the foundation for the organization. His leadership abilities and broad technical, mechanical and process understanding play a significant role in ICS’s ability to make things happen for their customers. In June 2014 ICS was acquired by Progressive Impression Int’l (pii). Ken is now part of the management team at pii and the General Manager of the Lansing location.

Cary Sherburne is a well-known author, journalist and marketing consultant whose practice is focused on marketing communications strategies for the printing and publishing industries. She was recognized as a 2009 Woman of Distinction by Output Links and was awarded the 2009 Thomas McMillan Award for excellence in journalism. Sherburne has written six books, including Digital Paths to Profit, published by NAPL; and most recently, No-Nonsense Innovation: Practical Strategies for Success, written with the late Bill Lowe, the Father of the IBM PC and available on Amazon. She has also ghost-written several books for busy executives, for whom she makes the process simple and efficient. In addition to her role as Senior Editor at WhatTheyThink, the leading online news and analysis resource for the printing and publishing industry, Sherburne occasionally writes for other printing trade magazines, as well as creating by-lined editorial for private clients. Sherburne has interviewed hundreds of printing and publishing executives, both on video and for written interviews, over her 13 years of private practice.
