Director of Member Satisfaction

I have been working for professional or trade associations my entire career. The youngest of five children, my father ran several trade associations while I was growing up and I would help out in the mail room by inserting letters into envelopes during summer vacations. I had no idea at the time that there were actual companies that provided mailing services for their clients. My customer service training started when I was in High School where I worked part-time at Sears as a floating cashier whenever someone needed a break. Many times I was sent to the handbags and hosiery department which was usually interesting.

My job responsibilities are varied which is probably the best fit for me. If I had to look at numbers all day like accountants do I would go bonkers. I am definitely a “people person” and enjoy anytime I hear from a member with a challenge that I can help solve.  But probably the best part of working at AMSP/MFSA/MASA the last 20 years is the opportunity to meet so many talented and energetic small business leaders that give so much back to their industry to help make ours a stronger association.

I wouldn’t go so far as saying I’m a workaholic but I really enjoy what I do. My wife also works for a trade association and publishes their magazine. So since we both work, we don’t have much free time but enjoy cooking (or watching cooking shows on TV) when we have time. When I’m not at work I enjoy spending time with my wife going to movies, biking or get togethers with our families.  When we vacation it is usually at the beach because there is nothing better than sleeping with the windows open and hearing the crashing waves. At least that is what my wife tells me since I pretty much sleep through anything.
