Getting the Most Out of Graph Expo 2014

Soon I will be off to GRAPH EXPO 14 in Chicago. There is always so much to see and learn, but never enough time. This year a “must have” on any attendee’s to-do list is to return home with at least three business development ideas for your company. Here are my tips for making the most of this year’s show:


While building their business, owners and senior executives are focused on increasing efficiencies and growing the bottom line. Attending GRAPH EXPO gives you an opportunity to explore ideas and find resources that can help you accomplish these goals. The best thing you can do for your company is to network with suppliers, peers, associations, and special interest groups that make up the industry.

I encourage you to use this opportunity to break out of your comfort zone and talk with as many people as possible to expand your thinking and collect different points of view.


As you walk around the show floor ask new and existing suppliers to share real world examples of how their equipment, technology, and services have helped others go to market and grow their business.

With an objective eye, ask questions that help you understand how technology can become a business enabler for your growth, and make it a top priority in your conversations.

Ask to be introduced to a peer who has taken on the same type of challenges that you’re facing. Together, you are sure to generate actionable items you can explore when you return home. These introductions can come from exhibitors, friends, and staff at the NAPL/AMSP/NAQP.

Go to GRAPH EXPO with a laundry list of questions and ideas you want to discuss and contact suppliers to make appointments in advance. Giving them notice of your intentions will help them prepare, and give you a better return from the meeting.

There are always great idea exchanges during the seminars, but there are also great presentations happening on the show floor. Make education a priority and attend a few seminars and presentations this year. Be sure to stop by the Deliver Theater (#1867) for free daily presentations covering all facets of mailing service operations, management, and strategic development.

This year think of GRAPH EXPO as an investment. Doing any one of these three things will give you a strong ROI, however do all three and you will reap the benefits for many years to come!
